Abell 1365 - Galaxy Cluster

The galaxy cluster Abell 1365 is located around 1 billion light-years away from Earth in the constellation "Big Dipper". Its redshift is z= 0.065, which corresponds to an escape velocity of v= 22,800 km/s. The inner region has an apparent size of around 8', which is equivalent to a distance of 2.5 million light-years at the distance of ACO 1365.

In my 20" telescope, I was able to recognize 10 galaxies in Abell 1365 at a magnification of 380x with averted vision. A small chain of stars makes it easy to find the faint, small patches of light.

Right next to the galaxy cluster there is a 9.0mag bright star of spectral type K8, which offers a nice contrast.
