The globular cluster MGC 1 holds the record for the largest distance of a globular cluster from the core of its host galaxy in the local group.
It is located 650,000 light-years from the center of the Andromeda Galaxy. Therefore MGC 1 is no longer in the constellation "Andromeda"
but in the northernmost part of the constellation "Pisces". The apparent distance of Messier 31 is 8.6°. This corresponds to 17 times the
apparent diameter of the moon.
With an apparent visual magnitude of 15.5mag it can be seen already in a telescope from 12-14" under good viewing conditions. With larger
telescopes it even appears slightly diffuse with a brighter stellar core.
