"PG1634+706" - Quasar

The quasar "PG1634+706" is located in the constellation Draco. The redshift of this object is given with z = 1.337, which corresponds to a light travel time of 8.97 billion years or a distance of currently 13.6 billion light-years. Every second the QSO moves another 207,000 kilometers away from us.

In catalogs the apparent visual brightness is given as 14.7mag, which makes it an easy object for medium sized amateur telescopes. But like many other quasars, PG1634+706 is variable in its luminosity. It was around 14.3mag in the years between 2000 and 2015, but in the meantime the brightness has dropped to 14.5mag. The absolute magnitude is M= -30.3mag, which corresponds to a luminosity of 110 trillion suns!

"PG1634+706" is among the brightest quasars with a high redshift - that is why it is very easy to see with my 20" f/3.2 at a magnification of 270x. In the star-rich environment two bright, whitish-yellow stars lie to the west of PG1634+706 and provide a great contrast to the QSO. Overall a wonderful object!
