Teutsch 120, Open Star Cluster

The special thing about "Teutsch 120" is that the open star cluster hides in the bright glow of the well-known double star "Albireo". Everybody is familiar with this star and has surely looked at it many times in the telescope, but it is estimated that hardly anybody knows that a faint cluster is hiding right next to it.

Unfortunately I could not find any parameters for "Teutsch 120" which characterize the cluster.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

At 120x the cluster is not really visible, because Albireo dominates the whole field of view with its bright glow. Therefore I increased the magnification to 270x to be able to hold this beautiful double star outside the eyepiece. After a short period of dark adaptation, I could perceive a larger, roundish to slightly oval, diffuse light spot that appears quite faint and has a low surface brightness.

The background is grainy, there are flashes of very faint stars from time to time over the whole area. 10 single stars starting with a brightness of 14-15mag were visible permanently.

Not a very easy object, but due to its location definitely worth looking at. But you need about 16 inch aperture to see the cluster in all its glory.
